ID Released For Man Struck, Killed By Car In Area

A 44-year-old man has been identified as the person struck and killed while walking along Old Route 6 in Putnam County.

Barrington L. Thompson, of Patterson, was hit about 7:06 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, in the vicinity of Spins Bowl in Carmel by a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, said Carmel Police Lt. John Dearman.

The driver of the vehicle was a 37-year-old man from Stormville, police said.

Thompson was transported to Putnam Hospital Center and then later transferred to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries. 

He was pronounced dead at 2:22 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 10, police said.

The operator of the vehicle was cited for having an expired inspection. He was also tested at the scene and displayed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment, police said.

The accident investigation is still ongoing.
